DOKscan connects scanners to virtualized applications on application servers or VDI solutions
Scanning printed forms, texts and images for further computer-based processing and archiving has become one of the most important tasks of the IT to support respective business processes. On the other hand, virtualizated applications on centralized application servers or on virtual desktop infrastructures become more and more popular to increase flexibility and to decrease costs. Due to the complexity and the volume of image data, it is very hard to access scanners from centralized applications, especially over the WAN.
It is true that general USB support is available as a part of the core technology or as a 3rd party product. General USB support enables the virtualized application to access the scanner connected to the remote workstation just like any other USB attached device, but ... did you know that a scanned standard page (600dpi, color) may consume up to 75 Megabytes ? Most probably a LAN can handle this amount of data but it´s a "killer" for WAN connections. Trying it will result in long transmission delays, nerved users, decreasing productivy and a diminishing acceptance for the whole virtualization solution.
LWP DOKscan provides an optimized driver, selected and adapted for the requirements of a virtualized application infrastructure. The DOKscan TWAIN driver communicates with the native TWAIN driver on the workstation and takes care of a bandwidth-aware transport of the image data, with the best compression ratio for a given quality level.
Benefits
- DOKscan´s TWAIN driver guarantees performant and stable operation on the host system
- Industry standard data structures and compression algorithms reduce bandwidth consumption up to 93%
- Centralized Management can be used to enforce policies for important scan parameters, e.g. color depth, resolution, ...
